Georgia Bulldogs Travon Walker raises the odds boards to be number one on the NFL Draft

One week before the NFL draft, two rushing contestants distanced themselves from other possibilities and emerged as the top bookmaker to be the number one pick in American sportsbooks: Aidan Hutchinson of Michigan and Travon Walker of Georgia.

Hutchinson has been the consensus favorite for the past two months and is currently listed at -170 to take the top overall on Caesars Sportsbook, a partner with ESPN.

However, Walker has come off the radar to narrow the gap. It wasn’t even listed as a betting option when Caesars posted odds on the first pick. He started with a 30-1 long shot at BetMGM but now has the second best odds at +140 to be picked first. More money has been wagered on Walker to be the first overall pick than any other player on BetMGM has been wagered.

Jacksonville Jaguars have the #1 pick.

NC State’s offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu and Alabama’s offensive tackle Evan Neal both 14-1 to be Caesars’ number one pick. Neil was the favorite to take the top spot for two weeks in late February and early March, and Ekwonu could be found on top of the odds in some sportsbooks earlier in the year. Despite this, Hutchinson has been the consensus favorite for the past six weeks and became a likely candidate in mid-April.

“There appears to be more volatility this year, but I think it happens when there isn’t a clear No. 1 pick like last year with Trevor Lawrence,” said Adam Boleyn, assistant director of trading at Caesars Sportsbook.

Liberty’s Malik Willis, at -130, is the favorite to be the first quarterback selected, followed by Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett at +130.

The NFL Draft begins on April 28 in Las Vegas.
