Ja Morant beats the Grizzlies after the T’Wolves in Game 5

The Minnesota Timberwolves had no answer for Ja Morant on Tuesday night.

The Memphis star, with a ridiculous poster that can fall like a postseason dunk and a last-second layup, led the Grizzlies to a 111-109 victory in Game Five of their series with the Timberwolves on Tuesday. He nearly had a hat-trick in the win as well, with 30 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists on the night.

“He was huge, he just kept going on the track,” said Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins. via Bally Sports. “I know just like the whole team, he didn’t have the best start. But I thought he was doing everything possible offensively and defensively… That’s the fun part of the basketball game, you don’t know how you’re going to win. You just have to keep going away, And you continue to trust him, and he clearly did a great fourth quarter.”

Although the dunk was incredibly impressive, it was Morant’s final layup that proved to be the hottest bucket in the competition. Morant, after Timberwolves forward Anthony Edwards drilled a three-pointer into the corner on the other end to tie the match 3.7 seconds from the left, easily managed to capture an inside pass at the top of the key with Edwards on his back.

With only Jared Vanderbilt standing in his way, Morant drove into the lane and crept into the layup under Vanderbilt.

While the final round was big on its own, Morant lit it up at the end of the third with a wild poster over Malik Beasley.

Right as the third quarter drew to a close, with the Grizzlies down by 13, Morant drove through the fairway at full speed and completed a dunk over Malik Beasly. Morant fully extended and masterfully landed a slam with one hand.

Although Beasley was clearly set outside the restricted area, he didn’t stand a chance.

But Morant’s analysis of the dip was a little different.

“She was on top of a guard,” he said. “its very easy.”

Karl-Anthony Towns led Minnesota with 28 points and 12 rebounds, and Edwards finished 22 points in a loss.

Payne, who was fouled in the first half after pushing Timberwolves coach Chris Finch, added 25 points to the Grizzlies. Brandon Clark dropped 21 points with 15 rebounds off the bench as well.
