Eastern Conference Finals Game 1: Jimmy Butler delivers historic performance as Miami beat Boston

“MVP Jimmy did what he wanted. He put us on his back,” Heat goalkeeper Tyler Hero said after the match.

Despite losing two of their players – Marcus Smart and Al Horford – hours before receiving the information, the Celtics started the first game with a 7-0 strength.

In the first half, Boston led up to 13 points, and entered the first half with a score of 62-54, as striker Jason Tatum scored the highest level in the playoffs by scoring one half, contributing 21 points.

Then the match was turned upside down after the end of the first half.

After a minute into the third quarter with the Heat trailing the Celtics by one point, Gabe Vincent’s three-point attempt bounced off the brink. Butler grabbed the offensive rebound and converted a corner kick, putting Miami ahead for only the second time in the game.

In the third quarter alone, Butler outperformed the entire Celtics team 17-14 as Boston ceded eight turnovers and fired 2-for-15 off the field — their worst shooting percentage in any quarter over the past four seasons.

“I just kept playing basketball the right way: hit the ball when I open, I attack, hit the open man,” Butler told reporters after the game. “Honestly, it was a team effort.”

Although the Celtics recovered in the fourth quarter – topping the Heat over 12 minutes and back in nine points with 7:35 left – the damage was already done.

“They stumbled in the first half and came out and played really hard in the third,” Tatum told reporters after the game.

“That’s on me, I had six laps. I have to take better care of the ball, especially in those situations when they’re running like that.”

Tatum scored 29 points to lead the Celtics.

Tatum scored 29 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Celtics, while Jaylene Brown scored a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Vincent also starred in the Heat team and contributed 17 points.

This is the third time the Celtics and Heat have faced each other in the Eastern Conference Finals, with Miami winning on both previous occasions.

Game two of the best of seven series scheduled for Thursday in Miami.
