Blackhawks’ 2022 NHL Draft Board Removal Sets Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have been eliminated from the playoffs by the Colorado Avalanche who will now determine which picks the Black Hawks will have in the first three rounds of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Chicago received a conditional selection from the Oilers last summer in the trade that sent Duncan Keith to Edmonton. The clause stated that if the Oilers qualified for the Stanley Cup Final, And the Keith played the top four minutes between Oilers’ defenses, and the pick would go up to the second round. We now know the Oilers will not play in the cup final, so the selection remains in the third round.

So, this is where the Blackhawks line up for the second and third rounds of the 2022 NHL Draft (for now):

second round

Choose number 38 Chicago special

Choose number 56 – From Minnesota (from the trade of Marc-Andre Fleury)

third round

Choose number 80 – From Las Vegas (from Matthias Janmark trade in 2021)

Choose number 89 – From Toronto via Calgary (from Nikita Zadorov trade in 2021)

Choose number 93 From Edmonton (from Duncan Keith Trade)

NB: Although the Eastern Conference final is still going on, both Rangers and Lightning finished the regular season with a better record than the Oilers, so their pick will be 29th in the third round.
