When Washington announced the new name, it was met with mixed reactions. Team boss Jason Wright has said several times that the team is not looking at “immediate,” but rather 6-12 months from now, and the long-term sustainability that the brand will hold. Fans were furious that the choice wasn’t the RedWolves, but for some, the leaders have grown on them over the past few months. Others would never accept the new name, and would still refer to Washington as the Red Indians.
The only thing that seems to be really taking hold, however, is the new uniforms that have been unveiled. Now of course, not everyone will embrace the change. Many referred to the new buggies as looking like a track team, with some even saying the white jerseys resembled the Arizona Cardinals or the Atlanta Falcons.
However, the majority of fans are really coming to the new digs – especially after seeing some of our players wearing them.
These are two completely different styles… and I love it! The matte is a much-needed conceptual change, and the black gloss is something the team has never done.
The colors are right, the lines are sharp and the shirts are unworked!
I know the gradient numbers have gotten rid of some of them, but these are pretty clean numbers.
All black outfit:
Washington has never had an all-black uniform. For me, this is a completely different approach – but it works! The shirts are not too busy, the spots on the shoulders look beautiful.
Mix and match:
I think this whole unifying concept is designed so that they can be mixed and matched. Below you see a mockup of a burgundy jersey shirt with white pants. White jerseys can be worn with all three colors of pants, and black jerseys can have white pants.
