Tiger Woods will skip the US Open, draw attention to the Open

Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday that he is giving up the US Open to recover from next month’s Open.

Woods announced in a tweet.

“I previously informed the USGA that I will not be competing in usopengolf because my body needs more time to get stronger for a major golf tournament. I hope and plan to be ready to play in Ireland on @JPProAm and at @TheOpen next month. I am excited to be back there soon!” he wrote.

The US Open is scheduled to take place June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts.

Woods did not play in the 2021 US Open after sustaining a devastating car crash in Los Angeles. He missed the cut in 2020 and ended in a tie for 21st place in 2019.

He’s back in competitive golf this year with the Masters. He finished the race 47th but was able to complete and walk the entire course throughout the event’s four days. He was forced to withdraw from the PGA Championship last month because he could not stand some pain from his injuries.

Woods has not won the US Open since 2008.

After competing in the Masters in April, Woods said he would set his sights on the Open Championship. Playing the PGA Championship was a long shot in the first place but he persevered to compete and cut before dropping out.

The Open Championship will be held on July 14th. It will be held in St Andrews, Scotland.
