Channing Crowder doesn’t regret calling Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson a “square,” but the former Dolphins linebacker has retracted his comments about Wilson’s wife, Ciara.
Raising Ciara, raising a man’s family — I’m going to take that back,” Crowder said during his Tuesday appearance on The Breakfast Club.
On an episode of the “The Pivot” podcast in April, Crowder suggested that Ciara—the Grammy-nominated singer, host, and designer—is just with Wilson for his money.
“If Russell didn’t have that bread, Ciara wouldn’t have had it,” Crowder said at the time. “Ciara, she has a good posture. Don’t go away [her ex-fiancée, rapper] The Future and Dealing with Russell Wilson. It’s kind. Everyone has a type… and I love him on the court but he’s in King’s Square, he said before calling Wilson “goofball.”
Crowder’s hosts, former racer Fred Taylor and former safety Ryan Clark, responded to his comments during the episode.
In an interview with The Post in May, Clark, Clark, and Taylor said the episode almost didn’t work out.
“Honestly, when we filmed that episode, it was kind of a trash episode,” Crowder said.
The trio were in Nashville taking pictures when they made the spontaneous decision to record an impromptu podcast about the NFL’s free agency. Wilson’s trade from Seattle to Denver has been one of the biggest free agency mega moves this off season.
“Honestly, brother, we didn’t talk about that episode after that,” Clark said. Then all of a sudden a week and a half later, I was like, ‘Why is everyone talking about my laughing at Channing? I was wrong. I said, “Oh, I forgot that even happened!” Like we legitimately forgot what happened.”
On Tuesday, Crowder continued his criticism of Wilson, repeating his previous “square” comment, saying he doesn’t take it back “a bit”.
“Have you seen Russell’s videos?” Crowder asked about “The Breakfast Club.”
“Have you seen,” Mr. Unlimited’?! Is this idiot doing?! I don’t know why a lot of people are pissed off at my opinion that Russell Wilson is square and limp. I wouldn’t describe him as an alcoholic. I wouldn’t call him a loser dad. I didn’t call him a homosexual. Call him lamer! “
Crowder added that his comments about Wilson were not personal.
Wilson and Ciara have yet to address the situation since Crowder made his initial comments in April.
The singer called off her engagement with Future in August 2014 after reports that the rapper cheated – and moved in with Wilson in April 2015. The two married in July 2016.
Wilson and Ciara share two children together – daughter Sienna, 4, and son Wayne, who turns 2 in July. Ciara has a son, Future Jr. , 7, from her relationship with Future.
