The Maryland men’s basketball non-conference list for 2022-23 is nearly complete.
The Terps are said to have played a large number of matches against five underpowered teams, including a mix of local, regional and national opponents to fill in the gaps between the announced matches with UCLA and Tennessee.
Maryland State will open its season on November 7 against MAAC opponent Niagara, who the Terps last faced in 2013 during the first round of the NIT.
The schedule continues with home games against Western Carolina and Binghamton before the Terps take on St. Louis and Miami/Providence as part of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off in Uncasville, Conn. Then Juan Dixon’s Cobain State comes to College Park on November 25, a day after Thanksgiving, the last game before Maryland travels to Brooklyn to face Tennessee on December 11.
The Terps no-conference roster picks up with that Tennessee game, and continues with home games against a potential top-five UCLA team, 2022 Cinderella Saint Peter’s and UMBC’s domestic opponent.
“My programs have always played a difficult role with non-conference opponents, and we continue to do so here in Maryland,” Willard said via a statement about the UCLA game. “We are excited to play one of the most iconic programs in college basketball history as UCLA is coming to College Park next season. Being close friends with UCLA Head Coach Mick Cronin, this is an exciting opportunity for us to play on the national stage. I know our fans will be excited for UCLA to come to XFINITY and I look forward to seeing them come out in full force.”
Maryland is still waiting for its opponent in the 2022 Big Ten/ACC Challenge, which is expected to be a road game after hosting Virginia Tech last season.
