The Houston Texans really liked Florida running back Dameon Pierce, which is why they took him with the 107th overall pick in Round 4 of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Texans also liked Pierce enough to give him an extra $25,000, and now that has affected signings in most fourth-round picks across the NFL.
According to Mike Garavulo of the NFL Network, just over 23% of 2022 fourth-round picks have been signed, and it largely comes down to how the Texans handle Pierce’s contract. Houston awarded Pierce an additional $25,000 over the minimum salary for the fourth-round pick, which led to other agents demanding the same amount for their clients.
Given that Houston took Pierce with the second pick in the fourth round, she caused a major predicament.
The fourth-round picks were the slowest to approve deals, in large part due to #texans You have RB Dameone Pierce (the second pick in the round) for an extra $25,000 over the bottom line, so now every agent behind him is asking for the same. Perion Winfrey and Kid York of the Cleveland Browns are good examples of fourth-round picks they haven’t yet signed with their team.
The Texans were able to obtain all nine of their picks under contract during organized team activities.
