Liverpool reject Bayern Munich’s second offer for Sadio Mane

Liverpool vehemently rejected a second offer from Bayern Munich for Sadio Mane, with sources telling ESPN that the Premier League runners-up are confused by the approach.

Bayern’s initial approach to Mane, who entered the final year of his contract with Liverpool, was rejected, and a second offer, which saw the numbers on offer increased to a total of £30m, was also cancelled. The second bid was £23.5m up front and bonuses increased by £2.5m to £6.5m.

In order for the transfer fee to reach that figure, a source told ESPN, Bayern would have to win the Champions League three years in a row and Mane would have to win the Ballon d’Or three times.

The 30-year-old joined Liverpool in 2016 and went on to win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup and European Super Cup during six seasons at Anfield.

Speaking ahead of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin on Saturday, Mane said he would fulfill the wishes of the Senegalese fans who he indicated are keen to make a move.

“Like everyone else, I’m on social media and I see the comments,” he said.

“Don’t 60-70% of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I will do whatever they want. We will see soon! Don’t rush because we will see this together. The future will tell.”

German champions Bayern Munich are looking for a new key player after missing Erling Haaland against Manchester City and Robert Lewandowski publicly seeking to leave the club.
