2022 Eastern Conference Finals – Game #6: New York Rangers vs Tampa Bay Lightning Open Thread

Having seen their 2-0 series lead turn into a 3-2 deficit following three straight losses, the Blueshirts season could be over tonight. The Prince of Wales Cup awarded to Eastern Conference champions will be in the building tonight, and another Lightning win will earn them that trophy and the celebration that goes with it. The Rangers will do everything they can to make sure the trophy doesn’t make its way onto the ice tonight, as they look to bring Game 7 back to Broadway with a win at Amalie Arena.

For those of you looking for reasons to be optimistic, Lightning led 3-2 in each of the five conference finals featured in 2015. In those 6 games, they’ve secured 1-4 wins, with the only win coming in the Edmonton playoff bubble in 2020. Although we all remember how the 2015 playoffs for New York ended, they started the elimination with a solid 7-3 win in Game 6 of that series before paving the way for the winner take it all in MSG. These Rangers will be looking to replicate the Game 6 performance of these Rangers.

The topic of discussion following Game Five was the lack of ice time earned by Lavrinier, Philippe Chettle and Kabu Kaku. While the line was New York’s best unit in terms of causing an attack, they could use more finishing touches and Lafreniere needs to step up. Lafreniere has currently ridden 14 games without goals and has been active in the success of the streak, but he was not the one to score on the individual level. This is the biggest game of Lafreniere’s youth career, so look for him to go up tonight.

Enjoy the game!
