Grad transfer to Illinois Jacob Grandison breaks commitment to Duke

Earlier this afternoon, Illinois grad transfer Jacob Grandison Committed to the Demons of the Blue Duke. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound striker is fresh from his official visit to Durham which played a key role in his decision.

“It was a wonderful visit,” he said. “Throughout the process I was waiting for this gut feeling and keeping everything open. I didn’t know until I found out and after the visit I was talking to all the staff to get to know her. I feel like this was the right decision for me.”

While Duke has a very talented freshman class for the 2022 season, Grandison will bring the much needed veteran experience and shooting to the team.

“Coach Scheyer and I had our own conversations but the message was just playing basketball. You can’t manipulate or force anything. Basketball is a natural event. It’s all about the flow, the chemistry and the culture. It’s all right there, he’s set to win and I’m ready to do that with them.” “.

“I’m coming in as a veteran. I have some experience and after visiting Duke is Duke but there’s absolutely no ego among anyone on the staff. It allows for that flow on and off the field. You really feel that the family vibe and the brotherhood is strong.”

Duke currently has his first comprehensive enlistment class for the 2022-2023 season and Grandison has high hopes for the NCAA Championship.

“At the end of the day I know everyone has the same intentions to win a national championship. I think it’s an interesting group. After I did my research, I found it to be a great group of young and old. There are a lot of things and places to take advantage of. Everyone will bring something to the table and have this. Understanding that we want to do big things and make history.”
