Tottenham interested in Gerard Deulofeu

Spurs are said to be interested in Gerard Deulofeu, with the Spanish winger likely to be on the move this summer.

According to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are exploring the idea of signing Gerard Deulofeu in the summer, with the striker considered a good option for Antonio Conte’s squad. Udinese could be willing to sell the Spaniard if an offer of close to €20m arrives.

Some talented players are seen as pioneers of a long list of clubs they have played for. Gerard Deulofeu is one of those stars who has been on the move since leaving Barcelona at a young age. The 28-year-old had spells at Everton, Seville, Milan and Watford before ending up at Udinese.

However, the winger, who has turned himself into a center forward, could move again this summer, with several clubs interested in the Spaniard. Spurs are the last to enter the equation, as the Udinese star is being looked at to add quality to this Spurs squad.

Deulofeu has been playing in Udinese since the summer 2020 window and has settled well at the Italian club. Last season, the former Barcelona striker scored 13 goals and five assists for the Serie A team, which led them to estimate him at around €20 million. However, the Italians are said to be open to selling and could shake hands with the move for €18m.

Conte does not particularly need a new winger, although the Italian may look for a replacement for Stephen Bergwijn. Should the Dutchman go, there will be a slight lack of attacking options in the squad, and Deulofeu could be the perfect reinforcement.

There have been strong links with Everton striker Richarlison, but the Brazilian could cost as much as 75 million euros, making Deulofeu a cost-effective option for Spurs.

Moreover, for Udinese, Deulofeu played a bigger role in the center of the attack, which could make Conte consider him as a strong and versatile option in the front three. With Tottenham playing in the Champions League next season, the Italian coach will need the depth of a good squad to compete on all fronts.

Deulofeu could be a good choice and may thrive on his return to England. The Spaniard is only 28 years old and could continue to enjoy a successful stint at Tottenham if they eventually sign him.
