Tim van Reethoven stuns Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win the Libima Open

Dutch star Tim van Reethoven crowned his dreams at the Lipima Open by defeating top seed Daniil Medvedev 6-4 6-1 in the final at S-Hertogenbosch on Sunday.

Van Riethoven, ranked 205 in the world, had never won a major tie match on an ATP tour until this week, ousting third seed Taylor Fritz and second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime before beating Medvedev in 65 minutes to secure his first title.

“This is new to me, and it will take a while to get used to,” Van Reethoven said during his court interview, according to the ATP Tour website. “What a dream this week.”

25-year-old Van Riethoven broke Medvedev four times and when the Russian’s return with a championship point bounced into the net, he sank into the grass as local fans cheered for the first Dutch champion on home soil in 19 years.

Congratulations Tim, have a great week. First time in the ATP Championship [final] Medvedev said after receiving the runner-up award, immediately destroy No. 2 in the world in straight sets.

“I don’t know how you feel, so it must be feeling good!”

US Open champion Medvedev will become world number one on Monday.

In the women’s final, seventh seed Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka 7-5, 6-0.
