If you feel like the world of professional golf has broken a little, it’s because it really happened. The launch of the LIV Golf Series has driven a wedge in the men’s game in recent weeks, as of this writing, 20 PGA Tour players (and counting) have joined the series.
But it all came in a poor way. Some players swore to the series, while others remained silent. Even others – like Bryson DeShamboe – changed their minds in a matter of days. Who are all involved in the LIV series? It can get confusing, but we’ve explained it to you below.
Phil Mickelson It is clear. Mickelson became the face of the Tour by logging in to play all eight events in 2022 and all 10 events planned for 2023. He is also among 17 players who were suspended on the PGA Tour just moments after they participated in their first LIV event. Unlike most others, Mickelson has not resigned from his tour membership, and believes he deserves to maintain his membership status for life.
Dustin Johnson He is another big name who has recently committed to the series. Unlike Mickelson, Johnson resigned his membership on the tour. It was Johnson’s participation, according to various tour sources, that changed the scope of the series for many professionals. Pat Perez He is one of those pros, who admitted that Johnson is “100% reason” for his playing.
Perez committed during the final round of the LIV Golf London event, just hours after the 2018 Masters . champ Patrick Reed Committed, two days later deshampooThe 2020 US Open Champion is committed. Speaking with reporters at the 2022 US Open in Brooklyn, Deschamps described the move as a “purely commercial decision.”
In total, the series currently features five different Masters champions, including Sergio Garcia And the Charles Schwarzl, who both played in the first LIV event. Schwartzel was the singles champion, and he was a major reason why Stingers GC won the team event. That’s $4.75 million for South Africa, equal to the last four years of his earnings on the course.
At the moment, LIV Golf has a large group of participating players. Some of them signed multi-year contracts. Others will participate in some events here, and others there. There are 48 players in the stadiums, so the more names involved, the fewer spots are available. Below is a list of notable players who have played in the series or committed to future events.
We will update this post as more names join the series.
