Ricky Fowler is now the number one substitute for the US Open in Brooklyn today after Mexico’s Abraham Anser was forced out of third place this year due to illness.
Ancer, ranked 20th in the official golf world rankings, has now been replaced on the field by Patton Keizer.
Sam Burns and Thomas Peters will join Kizzire for the first two rounds.
With Unser now out of the tournament, it means Fowler, who also missed the US Open last year, has stepped up to reserve number one if any other players decide to pull out before the first round starts this afternoon.
Fowler has been on point at Brookline all week in hopes of being able to work his way into the championship and capitalizing on two last-minute withdrawals.
There was some initial hope for Fowler fans earlier today as Harold Varner III was said to have tonsillitis, but the in-form American player still spending his time in R1 ended up alongside Sebastian Munoz and Alex Noreen.
Fowler, who finished second at the 2014 US Open in Pinehurst, will have to wait patiently to see if anyone else pulls out of the US Open today so he can play in the tournament.
Jordan Spieth has a stomach bug but his agent has confirmed he will still play in the US Open, so he rules out any chance for Fowler there.

It’s been a tough few years on the PGA Tour for Fowler, who has now slipped to 146th in the official golf rankings.
Fowler has recently been linked with a move away from the ring to join the controversial Saudi-funded LIV Golf Invitational Series led by two-time Open Championship champion Greg Norman.
The five-time PGA Tour winner certainly made no secret that he’s at least considering his options to split from LIV Golf, but so far nothing has been confirmed.
