Brett Goldstein’s ‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Reacts to ‘Thor’ Cameo as Hercules
Brett Goldstein says he was forbidden from letting anyone know he filmed a cameo in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. Even his parents didn’t know that.
However, “Ted Lasso” actor co-star Hannah Waddingham tells me he asked her what he should do when the offer came in to play Hercules in the post-credits scene opposite Russell Crowe in as his father Zeus. “He was like, ‘I was offered this thing and I was wondering if I should take it? “I went, ‘Are you crazy? Do you have a little while? He was like, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘Do you seriously think you might not be playing Hercules for about three seconds?’
Afterwards, Waddingham never heard of it again until “Love and Thunder” was released. “I was like, ‘You cheeky bastard!'” she said.
Goldstein remembers meeting with “Thor’s” costume department in secret to get his measurements for his Hercules armor. “I’ve never had anything that fit me so well,” he told me. “The shoes! I have to tell you about the shoes. I had weird big feet, but the shoes were perfect. I put them on and they were perfect from the start. They fit me perfectly.”
Juno Temple laughed when asked when she found out about the cast. “I can’t say,” she said, smiling.
She was stunned when she saw the movie: “You’re like, ‘Man, that’s one of my best friends in a big Hollywood movie!’ It was a genius cast.
Phil Dunster was also hesitant to reveal when Goldstein might have told him the big news. “He has always been Hercules to me,” he cracked. “He’s a big, hunky boy.”
The cast of “Ted Lasso” attends the FYC Emmy event in Beverly Hills on July 18.
Goldstein insists he doesn’t know what the future holds for his Hercules, but Dunster hopes Marvel will give him more to do. “He really is one of the nicest, most thoughtful, curious people you’ll ever know,” Dunster said. “I’m sure they’re going to bring a lot of depth to Hercules if they want to do anything with it. It’s funny because Hercules is like this big gruff guy and Brett is the guy who laughs at fart jokes with me.
There were casting rumors that made their way to social media, but Goldstein refused to confirm anything when co-star Toheeb Jimoh tried to have him dumped. “I was watching the movie and I came to the end and realized if it was in it it would be at the end, so I recorded it in secret,” Jimoh said. “I still have him on my phone right now. I watch him so much. He’s amazing.
And, Jimoh added, “Brett can get caught! Have you seen him? The guy is built crazy. He has the physique. He has the voice. He has charisma. He has presence and he is completely like hell.
Jimoh once asked Goldstein to play a role if ever a Hercules movie was made: “I’ll be in that movie!”
