See Chris Pine arguing with a strange creature in a new trailer

A new trailer has just been released featuring Chris Pine as the new action hero. No, he doesn’t command the USS Enterprise in this one. And no, it has nothing to do with Steve Trevor or Wonder Woman. Nope, this is the first trailer for the long-running action fantasy movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Thieves.
The first thing you will notice? The filmmakers are clearly trying to capture a very guardians of the galaxy type atmosphere. Instead of a beautiful Howard Shore score you might expect from an average fantasy movie, Chris Pine and his co-stars appear in the trailer with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” in the background. You can check out the trailer yourself below.
As you can see, it’s not just the music that gives a guardians of the galaxy vibe. Chris Pine’s narration tells us “truly, we helped the wrong person steal the wrong thing”, which ends up unleashing “the greatest evil the world has ever known”. So we have eccentric thieves stealing a powerful item that endangers everything. But then they have to start acting like the heroes they never wanted to be? Does this sound a little familiar?
While we don’t have too many plot details just yet, the trailer gives us a chance to see Chris Pine in action with Michelle Rodriguez (Furious 7), Régé-Jean Page (Bridgerton) and Sophia Lillis (This). We also find Chloe Coleman (big little lies) and Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom). Hugh Grant (love in fact) will play the villain, a role that seems to be offered to him more at this point in his career. He’s also playing the villain, hopefully this year, in Guy Ritchie’s delayed movie. Operation Fortune: Ruse of War.
This trailer alone offers a treasure trove of Easter eggs and other references for Dungeons & Dragons Fans. Players old and new will no doubt recognize the feline Displacer Beast, of course there’s the awesomely rendered Owlbear, there’s that Mimic Chest, and we see the heroes jump straight into a gelatinous cube that’s never, ever , already a good idea. While most of the heroes appear to be human, at least one – played by Sophia Lillis – appears to be a Tiefling.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Thieves has come quite a long way. Chris Pine was announced as the lead for the film a few years ago, with very few plot details released in the meantime. In the meantime, the fantasy film has suffered many of the same kinds of delays that many blockbusters have suffered since 2020. Believe it or not, the movie was originally slated to hit theaters a year ago this month. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was initially pushed back to November 2021 to make way for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, which itself would be pushed back several times. So J&D has been delayed to May 2022, and finally to the date announced in the trailer, March 23, 2023.
