Kat Von D has made another significant change in her life.
The tattoo artist shared in an Instagram post on Thursday that she throws books on witchcraft, magic and the macabre because they “don’t fit” who she wants to be.
This seems like a major shift for Von D, since these themes have long been part of his aesthetic and trademarks. Von D’s former beauty brand offered a tarot-inspired collection and a black lipstick color named “Witches,” for example, and its current shoe line features a coffin-shaped wallet.
“I’ve always found beauty in the macabre, but at this point I just had to ask myself what is my relationship to this content?” she wrote on Instagram. “And the truth is, I just don’t want to invite any of those things into our family’s lives, even if they come disguised as beautiful blankets, gathering dust on my shelves.”
Von D included photos in the post of books she’s tossed and opened about “pretty significant accomplishments” in recent years, with “many of them revolving around the fact” she says she’s ‘is mistaken about many things’ in her past.
The former makeup mogul also noted that she didn’t want her post to appear to be critical of people who love these topics, despite her feelings about them.
“But right now it has never been clearer to me that there is a spiritual battle going on, and I want to surround myself and my family with love and light,” he said. – she continued.

Von D’s announcement may come as a surprise as she’s widely known for her goth aesthetic, but the controversial figure has previously discussed other transformations she’s had in recent years.
Weeks after selling off her shares of her eponymous beauty brand in January 2020, Von D began covering the tattoos on her arms with black ink. At the time, she said the tattoos “meant nothing” to her because she got them before she got sober.
Von D announced in December 2020 that she bought a house in Indiana to escape California taxes, “terrible policies” and “tyrannical government”.
More recently, Von D shut down his famous tattoo shop, covered up more of his tattoos, and put his California mansion up for sale for over $12 million.
