See Nicolas Cage’s replacement in The National Treasure: Edge Of History trailer

With Comic-Con heating up this weekend, we’re about to process all kinds of first looks and reveals for upcoming projects. It’s one of the coldest times of the year, especially when you’re trying to master certain franchises and where they’ll go in the future. One of them is restarting the national treasure franchise that is coming as a series on Disney+. And this week, we got to see for the first time who would take over from Nicolas Cage when things pick up. We knew this story was going to take a turn with the new story and now we can actually see who is filling those shoes.
The trailer for National Treasure: Edge of History came out and although it was only about 20 seconds long, it was the first chance to see Lissette Alexis in the lead role. Of course, this was just a promotional teaser, meant to stir up more excitement than anything else. But it’s clear that the franchise is now heading in a different direction than Nicolas Cage who starred in the first two movies. In the teaser, we first see a shadow move towards a bulletin board apparently used by all Mystery Hunters, then some quick cuts to various artifacts and symbols before Alexis takes the hat off and we’re treated with the goods. Check out the teaser for National Treasure: On the Edge of History:
Lissette Alexis will play Jessica Morales on the show, a treasure hunter (like Nicolas Cage’s Benjamin Franklin Gates) and DREAMer who is on the hunt for secrets from her family’s past. And along the way, she’ll uncover even darker secrets involving lost treasure. The series will air on Disney+ and Morales will be joined by a team trying to help him on his mission. There will be Tasha played by Zuri Reed, Oren played by Antonio Cipriano, Ethan played by Jordan Rodrigues and Liam played by Jake Austin Walker. All have ties, in some way, to the world of treasure hunting and it’s sure to be some kind of set when it comes to tracking down the mystery. Other cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lyndon Smith.
Nicolas Cage won’t be returning to this series franchise, at least not right away, but Justin Bartha is back in the mix as Riley Poole. In the films, Poole was the team’s computer expert, critiquing in a number of the various stunts performed for the franchise. It is unclear what role he will have this time around.
The National Treasure franchise included the first film, then National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Nicolas Cage and company have grossed nearly $800 million at the box office between these two frolics across the world of historical artifacts. There was supposed to be a third movie, but it never materialized. Instead, we’re having Nicolas Cage replaced in this series. It’s unclear when it will hit the streamer, but the best bet is in 2023.
