Marvel Teases Phases 5, 6, Avengers, Black Panther 2, Guardians, More – The Hollywood Reporter
Welcome to the multiverse saga.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige made a triumphant return to Comic-Con on Saturday and was greeted as a hero. The executive announced a pair of avengers movies and revealed the official title of the next saga he is building. The Infinity Saga, which concluded with Avengers: Endgame, helped make Marvel Hollywood’s biggest brand. The new batch of projects bears the title of the multiverse saga.
“I’m incredibly excited,” Feige said, noting he sometimes wonders if he’ll ever return to -Con, which was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
The big news was a pair of avengers films to be released within a few months of each other. Avengers: Kang Dynasty will arrive on May 2, 2025, along with another avengers next movie months later. Avengers: Secret Wars releases Nov. 7, 2025. (Scroll to the bottom of this story for the full list of projects unveiled Saturday night.) No director was revealed, but End of Game filmmakers, the Russo Brothers have long said they would love to direct a Secret Wars film.
In typical Feige fashion, he started his panel right away with some news. Feige revealed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11) will wrap up the studio’s Phase 4 projects, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023) starting phase 5.
Feige has shared a number of release dates (or in the case of his Disney+ shows, approximate dates), with Loki season two is due out in the summer of 2022; the Hawk Eye spin off Echo debuts on Disney+ in summer 2023; Stone heart streaming Fall 2023; At Mahershala Ali Blade the film opens in theaters November 3, 2023; and the new Kathryn Hahn/WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Chaos Coven bowing out on Disney+ in the winter of 2023.
Additionally, he gave Anthony Mackie’s Captain America movie a title and date, revealing that the title is Captain America: New World Order. It opens May 3, 2024. It also shared the title of Charlie Cox’s return to Daredevil, with Daredevil: Born Again being an 18-episode series on Disney+. Also starring Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, the new daredevil is expected in the spring of 2024. Meanwhile, the villain-focused film Love at first sight will close Phase 5 with a date of July 26, 2024. Feige announced that The Fantastic Four would launch phase 6 on November 8, 2024.
Phase 4 was about “resetting the MCU and meeting all these new characters”, afterEnd of GameFeige said.
The world looked very different the last time Feige faced Hall H of 6,500. In July 2019, the executive presented phase 4 of the studio, post-Avengers: Endgame plans, which included strong theatrical and streaming releases. Then the coronavirus hit, shutting down movie theaters and disrupting Marvel’s release schedule. There haven’t been any Marvel movies for nearly two years, but now things are on the right track and Marvel is busier than ever.
Feige introduced filmmakers such as Ryan Coogler, James Gunn, and Peyton Reed to watch their upcoming films. Read on for a recap of each teased project.
At the start of the panel, Feige welcomed the team behind the Disney+ series She-Hulk to share a new trailer and reveal that Cox’s Matt Murdock will appear on the show as a lawyer. However She-Hulk was described as a half-hour comedy, Feige noted that the MCU “can do a change of tone”. It can range from funny to “something dark, something gritty, something political thriller”.
Next, Feige presented Secret Invasion, the Skrull-focused project with Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders. “You will never know who people really are. Are they Skrull? Are they human? Smulders said he showed a trailer featuring Nick Fury (Jackson) returning to Earth after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA
Ant Man 3 director Peyton Reed was next and bragged about it in his film, “We can finally hang out in the Quantum Realm.” Star Paul Rudd noted that his character, Scott Lang, feels quite pleased with himself for helping save the universe in End of Game – and footage showed Lang reading his memoir, which those close to him think is a bit of a stretch.
Later, Scott is sucked into the Quantum Realm, where he comes into contact with the villainous Kang (Jonathan Majors). “There may have been a MODOK plan,” Reed said of the footage, which also featured Bill Murray in a mystery role. Majors, who joined the MCU with Loki like the big bad One who remains, noted the version in Loki is not the same character in Ant Man 3 – it’s a different variant.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
“It’s towards the end.” This is how filmmaker James Gunn described Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the conclusion of a story he started with the 2014 film. In footage shown to the crowd, the audience learns that Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who disappeared at the end of End of Game, now leads the Ravagers – the group of sleazy space people seen in previous films. The trailer, on “Do You Realize?” from The Flaming Lips sets up a doomed romance between Gamora and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who is sad to confirm that she has no memories of her time with the Guardians. The footage also brought new character Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) to cheers from the crowd and revealed that Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his origin story would be the focus of the film.
“He must be the saddest creature in the universe. And that’s part of what it’s all about,” Gunn said of exploring Rocket’s origins.
The Guardians part of the panel also revealed that Maria Bakalova plays Cosmo the space dog, while Peacemaker actor Chukwudi Iwuji will play the High Evolutionary.
BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER
wakanda forever filmmaker Ryan Coogler noted that the impact of the ending Black Panther Star Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer in 2020, remains present. Coogler then brought actor Tenoch Huerta onto the stage, confirming that he will be playing Namor in the film. Dominique Thorne, the star of the next Stone heart series, will debut in wakanda forever and also made an appearance.
Coogler showed off the first trailer and shared a touching memory of being with Boseman five years ago for Comic-Con, when they promoted the first. Panther. “His passion, his genius, his pride, his culture and the impact he had on this industry will be felt forever,” Coogler said.
