Official Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania Art Reveals First Look At Kang The Conqueror And A New MCU Hero
It’s San Diego Comic-Con weekend, and the Marvel Studios panel is almost upon us. Saying fans can’t wait to see what Kevin Feige and co. having in store would be an understatement. While there’s still time before the big event, it looks like a cool piece of hardware has already dropped. Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts have received the first official look at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania via a sweet work of art. Not only that, but the image also reveals the first official glimpses of Kang the Conqueror and a new MCU hero.
Andy Park, director of visual development at Marvel Studios, dropped his stunning image on Instagram. The gorgeous render shows the titular Ant-Man and Wasp alongside Cassie Lang, who wears a similar purple costume to theirs. And above them, in the background, none other than Kang the Conqueror. No, it’s not the One Who Remains we’re talking about – it’s Kang proper. Check out the picture for yourself below:
Fans can’t wait to see more of Kang, and while this is just a brief snippet of what we can expect, it definitely looks promising. Based on Andy Park’s work, it looks like he and director Peyton Reed went for a look relatively similar to the character’s distinguished appearance in the comics. You’d think the almighty being would look even more intimidating in the actual footage. I don’t know about all of you, but I can’t wait to see more!
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniathe conqueror will be played by the fearsome Jonathan Majors, who previously played the aforementioned variant of the villain in Loki. Majors talked about bringing Kang to the trio, and while he was careful not to drop any spoilers, it looks like this being is very different from the one he played on the Disney+ show. And that makes sense, given that this person is way more evil and has done horrible things throughout their history in Marvel Comics.
On a lighter note, it’s great that both heroes have help in their fight against the mighty enemy. Cassie Lang, who fans met as a little girl in the franchise’s original 2015 film, is now a teenager and played by Kathryn Newton – who got ripped off for her MCU debut. The character has always dreamed of dressing alongside her superhero dad, so this is definitely a looping moment.
Cassie’s future in the cinematic universe is yet to be set in stone, but those who have read the comics are likely to believe that she will eventually become the hero known as Stature. Such a development would make perfect sense, and if so, it could be its “trial by fire”, so to speak. Cassie’s likely superhero status makes her another prime candidate for the Young Avengers, who may soon be established within the MCU.
After the reveal of this poster, one has to wonder if Marvel Studios will actually show footage of Quantumania, which wrapped filming last November and is set to arrive sooner than expected (but with a compromise). I think there’s a good chance that footage featuring Kang and Cassie will be shown. But whether it would be released for fans who aren’t lucky enough to be in Hall H is another story.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to open in theaters on February 17, 2023. While you wait for the movie, check out the first two by streaming them with a Disney+ subscription.
