Retired college principal and counselor writes new book of poetry
A compilation of poems analyzing family, addiction, sexual abuse and black history
NEW ORLEANS, The., July 25, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — After 30 years in the school system as a college principal and counselor, author Dr. Montrelle Jackson-Sinegar pays tribute to his passion for poetry in his first book, “Personal Poetic Perspectives”, embarking on a new career as a writer.
Readers will explore poetry focused on a variety of topics and perspectives: family, addiction, sexual abuse, and black history. A selection of poems depict Jackson-Sinegar’s personal experiences, while other poems tell the stories of individuals like Barrack Obama and Serena Williams, figures that she considers worthy of discussion because of their influence on society. Each poem presents a theme in rhythmic format, to challenge the reader to examine their personal biases.
“I hope to educate people on topics they may never have considered,” Jackson-Sinegar said. “People who read this book are inspired to recognize, identify and deal with personal biases.”
Jackson-Sinegar encourages readers to reflect on their past, present, and future, asking questions to ignite readers’ thoughts and opinions about personal, social, and current events. She hopes to encourage young women and men to achieve their goals, believing that no matter an individual’s age or position, there is always hope.
“I chose to write many of my poems in the first person to allow the reader to identify with each poem and have a more enjoyable and realistic reading experience,” Jackson-Sinegar said.
