‘Leave It to Beaver’ star Tony Dow is alive despite announcement
The death of ‘Leave It to Beaver’ star Tony Dow was announced prematurely on Tuesday after his wife, Lauren Shulkind, mistakenly informed the actor’s management team, according to TMZ.
The Dow manager told the outlet that Shulkind, 75, was “very upset” by the condition of her husband – who is currently in hospice care – and believed he had been pronounced dead.
However, the actor, known for his role as Wally Cleaver, is said to be still alive.
Page Six has reached out to the Dow representative for further clarification, but has yet to receive a response.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dow’s official Facebook page posted a now-deleted post from its management team, announcing the actor’s death.
The statement – from Frank Bilotta and Renee James – read: ‘It is with extremely heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of our beloved Tony this morning.
“Tony was a beautiful soul – kind, compassionate, funny and humble. It was truly a joy to just be around him. His soft voice and unassuming manner were immediately heartwarming and you couldn’t help The world has lost an incredible human being, but we are all richer in the memories he left behind.
Dow, 77, and Shuklind announced in May that the “Still the Beaver” star had been diagnosed with cancer, but did not reveal what type.
Dow’s management team later shared an update on their client’s health in a July 20 Facebook post, saying the actor’s health had been a “roller coaster of ups and downs.”
“Tony has been in and out of the hospital with various complications and treatments,” the statement read.
“He and Lauren have tried to maintain a positive spirit, even if sometimes it proves difficult. The outpouring of love and concern from all of you is certainly helping to alleviate this, and we thank you for that. We will post again when there is more to report. Until then, keep the good thoughts coming.
The Dow team has not released any statement on this Facebook page about the confusion reported in the death announcement.
Meanwhile, fans on social media reacted to the conflicting news after sharing several tributes.
A person tweeted“Whether or not Tony Dow was dead was not on my 2022 bingo card.”
