Simon Pegg is no stranger to being the man behind the computer, with multiple appearances in the Mission: Impossible franchise as a technician supporting Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. But her role in the upcoming series The undeclared war looks like it’ll be a bit more grounded than the usual spy antics. Check out the trailer for the upcoming Peacock series below:
Set in 2024 in the UK after the pandemic, The undeclared war it looks like it will be very relevant to the current state of the world, as it tells the story of a young college student named Saara Parvan (Hannah Khalique-Brown) who discovers a security breach on her first day of work for the malware department at GCHQ. As they discover that Russia may be behind the attacks, a data war escalates between the two countries. Analysts are working to prevent cyberattacks from interfering with Britain’s upcoming general election. With Hannah Khalique-Brown and Simon Pegg, The undeclared war also stars Oscar winner Mark Rylance. The cast also includes Adrian Lester, Alex Jennings and Maisie Richardson-Sellers.
Multiple BAFTA award winner Peter Kominsky is the creator and director of the series. Declan Lawn, Adam Patterson and Amelia Spencer were on the writing team. If you’re interested in seeing Simon Pegg and the rest of the cast wage cyber warfare, you can grab The undeclared war when he hits Peacock on August 18.
Those who love seeing Simon Pegg as tech Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible franchise are in luck as we’ll be getting a double dose of the series over the next two years. We’ll have a new Mission: Impossible movie next summer with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 and the following summer with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2. Christopher McQuarrie is back to direct and script both entries. Of course, Tom Cruise will be back as Ethan Hunt, with other returning cast members like Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby. Newcomers include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Greg Tarzan Davis and Cary Elwes.
While we may have to wait a year to see another Mission: Impossible film, Simon Pegg’s next project is much closer, with the animated film Chance will be released on August 5. This film will see Simon Pegg engage in a different kind of war, as the worlds of bad luck and luck collide. Pegg plays black cat Bob alongside Eva Noblezada’s unlucky Sam Greenfield. Jane Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg, Flula Borg and Lil Rey Howery also star. Chance will stream on Apple TV+. After that, you will only have to wait a few weeks for The undeclared war to hit Peacock. Meanwhile, you can catch Pegg briefly reprising her role in The boys episode “Payback” as Hughie’s father. You can also hear it in the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Devilish where he voices the character of Hughie, whose appearance in the comics was actually based on Pegg.
