Kris Jenner loses art auction after stopping at $360,000
Kris Jenner knows when enough is enough. The momager recently stopped Howie Mandel and her daughter by Jackelyn Shultz podcast “Howie Mandel Does Stuff,” and midway through the episode, she found herself in the middle of a bidding war for an artwork in London. Kris had an assistant named Matt on the phone making offers with her approval, which started at $160,000.
The intense bidding continued with Kris raising the bid in increments of $10,000 to $20,000, once it hit $260,000 she said no. “I would have gone to 250,” she said before quickly changing her mind. “What do you think?” She asked for the room. “Just say 280.”
Artists’ Society Sotheby’s was doing the auction live, bidding continued with Kris dropping from $290,000 to $310,000 to $330,000 to $360,000. Once it reached $370,000, Kris finally stopped bidding. The still life was painted by Anna Weyant, a Canadian-born, New York-based artist whose figurative paintings blend Dutch Golden Age influence with contemporary popular culture and social media. Weyant has 82 followers on Instagram and she shared part of the large 48″ x 38″ oil painting, which shows a basket of eggs, a loaf of bread with a knife and some fish. The piece ended up selling for $466,000. “Stop, 466, for the eggs?” Kris said reacting to the news. “Wow okay.”
The 66-year-old said she trades and sells art and “loves it and has done well”. She then revealed that Kendall Jenner was the person who trained her. “Oh, she collects beautiful works of art and she taught me a lot. She buys things for a feeling, and that’s what I had with this artist, I just loved her work,” Kris explained.
As the episode continued, Howie tried to get Kris to reveal how much money she had spent on an artwork, but she refused, joking that he was then going to ask her how much. had in his bank account.
Elsewhere in the episode, Kris, who wished Kylie Jenner would “slow down” on her spending habits, said she likes to carry around cash so she can tip people nicely. “I think it’s really good to tip someone if you appreciate the service they provide. So if I’m in a restaurant and tip for lunch, maybe I’ll tip too $100 to the waitress,” she said. “It’s just nice to be able to tip someone.” You can watch the full episode below.
