ANTHRAX working on Dolby Atmos mix of ‘Among The Living’ album: ‘It’s So Heavy’

ANTHRAXlongtime producer Jay Ruston working on a Dolby Atmos mix of the band’s classic third album, 1987 “Among the Living”.

The LP, originally produced by Eddie Kramer and ANTHRAXpresented the singer’s lineup Joey Belladonnalead guitarist Dan Spitzrhythm guitarist Ian Scottbass player Frank Bello and drummer Charlie Benante.

Building on an underground sequel with signature tracks such as “I am the law”, “Trapped” and “Indians”, “Among the Living” catapult ANTHRAX to wide recognition and won the band’s first gold award. ANTHRAX discussed plans for the Dolby Atmos mix of “Among the Living” in an appearance earlier today (Thursday July 28) on SiriusXMit is “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk”. “We have the master tapes, which we didn’t even know if they survived that fire or not, but apparently they did,” Benante said, referring to the 2008 fire in a Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood, California, in which master recordings of approximately 500,000 songs by many renowned musicians of the last century were destroyed. “And Jay remixed it and I heard some of it and was blown away. Like, ‘Wow!’ Jay played some [of it for me]and I was just, like, ‘Man, this looks amazing’ – like we did it yesterday.”

According Benantethe idea of ​​making a Dolby Atmos mix of “Among the Living” comes from the record company, Universal. “[They] approached us to do it because they did this,” he said. “And, of course, they chose that record first. It’s going to be great, though.”

Ian added, “They had a list, apparently, of albums that hadn’t been made in Dolby Atmos yet and we were at the top of that list; they were really interested in doing that with us.”

Charly went on to say that what he has heard from the Dolby Atmos mix so far is impressive. “The tones are so awesome, and it’s so heavy,” he explained.

“[Jay] sent me some guitar parts when he first got the tapes,” Scott added. “He said, ‘I put these masters in place. And he sent me guitar tracks of some of the songs. I was, like, ‘Holy shit.’ He just sent me my ‘Trapped’just the guitar, and I was like, ‘Wow!’ [Laughs]”

I am not criticizing what is going on ‘Among the Living’but we might have benefited from being a little less in a hurry to finish the writing part.”

Regarding the registration process for “Among the Living”, Scott said, “We had just come out of METALLIC tour in the fall of 86 when [METALLICA bassist] Burton Cliff was killed, and we had left that tour obviously early because of the tragedy. And that’s when we started recording this record, pretty much right after. I feel like the energy really jumps off this record; you hear how excited we are to play our instruments on this record. There’s a brutality to this album that you don’t hear on the two records before. ‘Among the Living’. It was just the record of his time; it really was.”

When ANTHRAXit is “Among the Living” full album performance at the 2014 edition of the Sonisphere festival was first announced, Ian said: “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (1986, New York), we wrote a record that at the time we had no idea would become our ‘signature’ record. We had a song about the plight of Native Americans, we had songs about Stephen King characters (Randall Flag of ‘The gallery’ and Todd Bowden of “fit student”), we had a song dedicated to Burton Cliff and another on John Belushiis the clichéd death. We had a song on Judge fucking Dred and we had a song called ‘Trapped’. We have had songs.’

He continued: “When ‘Among the Living’ hit the world in the face in 1987, he launched ANTHRAX in a high-speed trajectory that we could barely follow. Like going from 0 to 200 km/h in 5 seconds flat. Our heads were spinning as fast as they were banging, and [35] years later, nothing has changed.”

You know there’s a movement going on, but you don’t know if this record you have is going to be what they’re looking for. It depends on chance – for everyone, to be honest. And we had momentum, sure, but you don’t really know how it’s going to work out. And to be honest, all you can do is do your best – release your best music – you go out there and walk your fucking ass around. And that’s the program.”
