Ben Affleck reportedly replaced Michael Keaton as Batman in Aquaman 2
Jason Momoa recently shocked DC fans by announcing that Ben Affleck would return as Batman/Bruce Wayne in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Affleck last played the caped crusader in Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) and will also appear alongside fellow Batman Michael Keaton in the flash.
Ben Affleck is now set to make another DC Extended Universe appearance as Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomwhich, according to reports, is due to continuity issues resulting from DC Films’ slate reshuffle. the flash and Aquaman 2 Both were slated to hit screens this year, but have been delayed to 2023. While an exact reason has yet to be revealed, the Warner Bros. Discovery and the involvement of problematic stars Ezra Miller and Amber Heard in the films are being touted as potential. the reasons for the postponement.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will now arrive on March 17, 2023, three months before the flashwhich will debut on June 23. Michael Keaton originally appeared in Aquaman 2but according to several insiders, test audiences were troubled by its inclusion, as it was supposed to be featured in the flash originally. And that apparently opened the door for Ben Affleck to return. Grace Randolph and KC Walsh confirmed the news, but as always, take them with a grain of salt.
And as for Affleck’s DCEU future, there are still no plans for his dark and beefy Batman, especially now that SnyderVerse has also been scrapped. Michael Keaton will play an aging, serious Batman in the main DC timeline, with Robert Pattinson playing a younger version of the masked vigilante in The Batman series. There seems to be no more room for Ben Affleck’s Batman to fit into the DC Extended Universe, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will likely arrange his return and eventual farewell in the flash. However, Affleck is rumored to be rethinking his DCEU retirement.
Ben Affleck is excited to return to The Flash
Ben Affleck has repeatedly confirmed that he’s done playing Batman in the DCEU and is just fulfilling his previous commitments, but he just can’t bring himself to say goodbye to the character. Due to personal struggles and the mess behind the scenes of Justice LeagueAffleck left his solo film Batman in 2019, which he would also go on to direct.
Robert Pattinson was quickly chosen to The Batman, with Matt Reeves directing from an entirely different script. And Michael Keaton was then announced to reprise his role as the iconic 1989s superhero. Batman in the flash. But for some reason, barely a year after leaving Batman, Affleck decided to return to the flash and also shot new scenes for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Could a change in the management of WB and DC Films have motivated Affleck’s decision? Or maybe the Warner Bros. merger. Discovery did, as new CEO David Zazlav has big plans for the superhero franchise. Either way, Affleck is thrilled to put the cape and cowl back in the flash and had a very different (less stressful) experience of shooting the movie than on Justice League, at least that’s what he told Variety last October.
“It was a really good way to review this because the previous experience had been difficult. It was really lovely. Really fun. I had a great time… I’m probably in a gag that I don’t I’m not even aware I probably just raped and now I’m going to be sued… I love Ezra [Miller] and I had the chance to see Jason [Momoa]who is there [in the UK] manufacturing [Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom].”
