Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence pictured having dinner in New York
Best Actress Oscar winners and good friends Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence are the type of A-list stars and new moms who keep their lives largely off social media. But the internet got a very rare glimpse into their friendship when New York restaurant Hwa Yuan shared a photo of the two stopping there for dinner on its Instagram.
“Hwa Yuan was thrilled to have Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence over for dinner!” writes the restaurant. “Chef Tang and the Tang family are huge fans and are honored to have fans of our restaurant and our food. Emma and Jennifer, we hope you enjoyed it and will be back soon!”
Both Stone and Lawrence chose to dress in black, New York’s unofficial uniform. Stone wore what appears to be an open black top and dress, while Lawrence stepped out in a black cropped top and jeans, with a button-up shirt with layered white and gray stripes.
It’s the first time the two actresses have been seen together this year, and since Lawrence became a mom. Lawrence welcomed her first child with husband Cooke Maroney in February, while Stone welcomed her first child, a girl with husband Dave McCary, in March 2021.
Lawrence interviewed Stone for SHE in August 2018, and the two friends opened up about their hopes of becoming parents in their 30s.
“Are you a mother? She’s going to be the best mom; she is so nourishing,” Lawrence said.
“That’s how you are!” I think your maternal instinct is very strong and always has been,” Stone replied.
“Thank you, honey,” Lawrence joked.
“My view of children changed as I got older,” Stone explained. “I’ve never done babysitting or anything. As a teenager, I said to myself, I will never get married, I will never have children. And then I grew up and I thought to myself, I really want to get married, I really want to have children.
“When I was a teenager, every boyfriend I had told me, I guess that’s the one!” said Laurent. “I was that girl. Wouldn’t it be great if we could have a baby?”
“Aw, quite a village,” Stone said.
“Science,” Lawrence added.
“That’s the thing about being 30 where you’re like, I’m not that young,” Stone said. “I’m young, but I’m not that young.”
“I can tell you’re fertile just by looking at yourself,” Lawrence said. “I can see it on your fucking face.”
“Thank you. That’s the kindest thing you’ve ever said to me,” Stone joked.
“I would be honored to father your children,” Lawrence said. And that’s where the interview ended.
