Meghan and Harry author plan new royal book with ‘exclusive revelations’
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s biographer Omid Scobie is writing a new book about the Royal Family after its initial shock waves across Britain.
find freedom caused a tidal wave of headlines with allegations that Harry thought Prince William was a snob and that a member of the royal family dismissively referred to Meghan as “Harry’s showgirl”.
Meghan was forced to admit that she in December 2018 allowed Kensington Palace Communications Secretary Jason Knauf to brief the authors, despite the book being based on the testimonies of more than 100 people.
Scobie co-wrote find freedom with Carolyn Durand while her latest book, currently untitled, is a solo project and is due out in 2023.
Publicity material describes the book as “a new chapter in royal history” which will feature “unique insight, in-depth access and exclusive reveals”.
As find freedom, it will be published by Dey Street, an imprint of William Morrow. Few details have been released, but there is no suggestion that this will be another biography of Meghan and Harry and may examine other aspects of the monarchy.
Scobie announced the news on Twitter, writing, “Now that it’s official from Publishers Weekly (🙏🏻), I can finally share that I’m working on a BRAND NEW BOOK!! So excited to be working with Carrie Thornton again at @DeyStreet @HarperCollins (United States) and @MsLisaMilton at @HQstories @HarperCollinsUK (UK/Commonwealth). Coming in 2023!”
find freedom hit shelves in the summer of 2020 a few months after Harry and Meghan left palace life for a fresh start in America.
The book is known for its positive take on the couple’s royal history at a time when much of the UK media commentary on them was negative.
Scobie and Durand caused a stir from the very first extract serialized in a British newspaper The temperature.
Among the bombshells of the first edition was an account of Prince Harry’s reaction to Prince William advising him to slow down at the start of his relationship with Meghan.
William is quoted saying, “Don’t think you have to rush. Take all the time you need to get to know this girl.”
The book reads: “In those last two words, ‘that girl,’ Harry heard the tone of snobbery that was anathema to his approach to the world.
“During his 10-year career in the military, outside of the royal bubble, he had learned not to make snap judgments about people based on their accent, education, ethnicity, their class or profession.”

However, the revelations themselves are only half the story, as Scobie and Durand’s closeness to Harry and Meghan is a hotly contested topic.
The blurb describes the book as having been “written with the input of those closest to the couple”, but they have consistently disputed UK media claims that it was secretly authorized by the couple.
Scobie is regularly mentioned by newspapers like the Daily Mail as Meghan’s “spokesperson” or “friend”, although he has always denied being so close to the Duchess.
Meghan’s legal team moved to keep her away from the book, despite leaking emails to her for a privacy and copyright lawsuit against The Sunday Mail eventually showed that the couple had allowed their communications secretary Knauf to meet with the perpetrators.
An email from Harry in December 2018 read: “I totally agree that we need to be able to say we had nothing to do with this.
“Likewise, you give them the right context and the background would help get some
truths out there.”
Meghan wrote: “Thank you very much for the information below – for when you sit down with them [the book’s authors] it can be helpful to have some background reminders, so I’ve included them below just in case. I know you are more versed in this area than most, but I help where I can.”
There is no suggestion that either royal gave an interview for the book and all parties have denied doing so.
However, anything Scobie writes about the monarchy is likely to cause a storm and be picked up by the British media for any evidence of Camp Sussex’s contribution.
