Sophia Bush opens up about working with ex-husband Chad Michael Murray on One Tree Hill after divorce

Sophia Bush opened up about what it was like working with ex-husband Chad Michael Murray after their divorce.

The actress, 40, starred as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill opposite Chad, also 40, with their characters continuing to this day after the cast split.

The two co-stars got engaged in 2004 and married in 2005, only to separate less than six months later.

Opening up about how she maintained her professionalism on set, Sophia said she puts the character above everything else.

She was talking about a new episode of her Drama Queens podcast with One Tree Hill co-stars Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton.

Bethany praised Sophia for the way she handled the situation, saying, “Not for nothing were you going through a breakup with the person you were playing romance to your face.”

“And regardless of all those circumstances, it’s incredibly difficult – emotionally, to be able to be vulnerable and to be there in that moment.”

She continued, “There’s a lot of actors who’ve done that — who’ve done movies and TV shows and things, they’re dating their partners or whatever, it doesn’t work out.”

“But the fact that you were able to be so raw and open and vulnerable, it’s a real honor for you as an artist.

“You put your art in front of everyone and you were like, ‘Look, this is it. I just share my heart and here we are. I thought it was really beautiful.

Sophia replied, “People can call it whatever they want. They can say it’s strength, they can say it’s pride, they can say it’s professionalism — you can put a positive or a negative bias on it.

“But I was always going to put Brooke Davis ahead of everyone and everything. Nothing mattered to me but being honest to her.

The star previously confessed she felt pushed into marriage, saying ‘everyone is 22 and stupid’, and added that marriage was ‘not something I really wanted to do’ .

Sophia also said: “I refuse to let this relationship define me, which is why I did my best to avoid discussing it for 10 years.

“The reality is, yes, it was a major event in my life. And the trauma was amplified by the way it became public, which was incredibly alien and weird for a girl who was just another student 24 months before her life exploded.

In 2014, she said of the relationship, “We were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place. To all the other co-stars who worked on it, more power to you.

And when asked about Chad last year, Sophia immediately replied, “Oh, I’m not going to talk about him.” I’m not allowed to.’

“I tried to poke fun at being a stupid kid and every time I did that it turns into I’m talking shit about someone I don’t even know anymore who is clearly an adult. ,’ she explained.

“I think you gotta, like, laugh at who you were,” she continued.

“But when people ask me about the story that involves someone else…it’s not worth my time. It’s not a place where I harbor grudges or anything.

While talking about her youth in the spotlight, the Chicago Fire star said she said she was a “very naive 21-year-old kid.”

“And that’s all there is to it,” she said of their five-month marriage.

“I think a lot of people do stupid shit before their prefrontal cortex is fully formed – and they aren’t for 26 years.”

She joked, “So you do the math on my timeline. I literally didn’t have a whole brain.

Sophia married her fiancé Grant Hughes, 40, in Tulsa, Oklahoma in June of this year.

She revealed she got engaged to her businessman boyfriend while on holiday in Lake Como last August.

“So it turns out being your favorite person’s favorite person is the best feeling on planet earth #YES,” she said in her Instagram caption while sharing an image.

“Thank you @comoclassicboats and @bottega53 for helping my favorite human plan the most amazing and emotional surprise of my life. My heart. It’s bursting,” she added.
