A man doesn’t understand why asking to swap bridesmaids at his friend’s wedding is such a big deal.

The groomsman continued on Reddit “Am I the A******? (AITA)” and was quickly called. Before being paired with bridesmaid Brooke as a member of the wedding party, the two went on a date. He ended the night earlier than expected because he’s shorter than Brooke and didn’t think his job was a “legitimate career path.” Now he doesn’t want to be paired up with Brooke at their friends’ wedding because of their history.

“AITA for asking for another bridesmaid at my friends wedding?” So my two best friends (26 million) Adam and Whitney are getting married this fall,” he explained. “We’ve been tight since HS, the three of us are still racing together. I was asked to be at the wedding. Of course, I’m happy for my friends. But here’s the problem. They paired me with the only bridesmaid I’m not a fan of. This girl named Brooke (27F). Brooke and I met a few years ago. She was Whitney’s college volleyball teammate. She moved into our neighborhood and we started hanging out. She seemed like a great person at first. Funny, down to earth and very athletic. Whitney is the one who framed us. I was not at all confident in the situation.

“Because our height difference was a bit extreme for me (I’m 5’8 and she’s 6′). But I decided to go at least to the appointment. We had a great time. But that’s when I learned what Brooke had done. She was a cashier at a tanning salon. I’m looking for someone who has a legitimate career path. I’m into financial planning and have always wanted someone who is like me. So at the end of the date, I told her that I didn’t think it would work out between us. And we should probably skip the movie we had planned. She asked why. I was polite and told him that I didn’t see our paths aligning. Well, she kept pestering me and wanted to know what the real reason was. I told him that I just wanted someone who had a defined career path and made a lot of money. I worded it very lightly.

“Over the next few weeks, Whitney barely got back to me. As did a few of my other friends. I find that Brooke told them a totally different version of events. That I abandoned her to our date because she was poor. Which isn’t what happened at all. She went to a restaurant. We just didn’t go to the movies afterwards. She told everyone that I was superficial and completely rephrased what I said. I was able to explain my side of things and show the texts to Whitney. And we made up. But I didn’t want anything to do with Brooke anymore. from.

“Now I’m paired with her for marriage. Which wouldn’t be a big deal other than the fact that we have a lot of responsibilities together. We have to form a dance and some other tricks. I don’t want to do it with her. I asked Whitney to change me for another girl. And she refused. Say she wants it like that. I’m half convinced they’re doing this to confuse me. Adam understands my position but tells me to just accept it. I don’t want to cause anything here. But I’m afraid they want to fuck with me because of the height difference or something. I’m thinking of asking to just be a guest and see if that changes things for Whitney. Because that’s really my only leverage here.
