Wendy Williams’ family, concerned friends after marriage proposal

Friends and family are growing increasingly concerned about Wendy Williams – especially after she bizarrely claimed in a phone conversation that she married an NYPD cop.

They fear that she will be surrounded by people who don’t want the best for her and that she will be allowed to rush into work and media appearances before she is healthy enough.

On Tuesday, they scratched their heads after celebrity blog Hollywood Unlocked reported that she called CEO Jason Lee “and shared some life updates, including the exciting news about her new hubby.” .

Lee even posted a clip of a phone call with Williams in which she said, “I’m married.”

Speaking to Page Six, the cat legend’s brother, Tommy, described his recent appearances and interviews as “really sad”.

“I’ve been with Wendy from the very beginning and she’s never spoken like that, but I don’t think it’s her fault. It’s a precarious situation,” he tells us.

He told us he had spoken to his sister recently and she hadn’t mentioned anything about a husband.

“She wasn’t getting married last week,” he said, “I think that’s kind of crazy and very annoying.”

Williams has been on a downward spiral since taking time off in 2021 from her longtime and beloved eponymous show for what would become its final season. After her comeback was repeatedly delayed, it went off the air in June amid reports she had mental health issues.

She has since given several interviews, including one with The Post last month, in which she said she was “ready to fuck.”

And insiders say her situation hasn’t improved since she went off the air.

“Things are really bad. She’s not the same Wendy…She’s regressed like crazy and her family in Florida is very worried about her,” a source told Page Six.

Jeweler-turned-Williams-representative William Selby said Wednesday that she was not married, saying “she’s excited about a new relationship and probably got caught up in the conversation.” But he told us that Williams is in control of his career and his return to the public eye.

“I do my best to make my client happy,” he told us.

“I have to listen to her even if I don’t always completely agree…if she wants to do an interview, sometimes we do, and if it doesn’t work, I stop her. We are still testing the waters,” he said.

She and Selby have been working on “The Wendy Experience” podcast, which he hopes will debut “in mid-August…if all goes well.”

“She tells me she wants to do the podcast every day. She is ready to [do] this thing today and I’m fighting it,” Selby said while admitting that Williams isn’t “100 percent” yet.

“Could it be better? Yes. Much remains to be done to put it in space, where it can be better represented. I just want his legacy to be respected and intact,” he said.

Meanwhile, other sources are confused by her relationship with Selby, who she is rumored to be dating in 2020.

“This William person is her jeweler but now he is her rep or works as her manager and they are starting a podcast? It makes no sense,” the first source said.

And although Tommy didn’t name Selby, he thinks his sister is being exploited.

“If she was around the right people, they wouldn’t have her in front of the cameras. She’s in the wrong hands,” he said.

Tommy and Williams have had a rocky sibling relationship in recent years, as he often mentions her on his YouTube show, “The Tommy Williams Show.” Still, “we talk regularly and I just want her to be healthy,” he said.

“I want her to come back to Florida because that’s where the love is. She needs to be around people who really love her,” he said.

“We have to prove her right, but she runs away from me when I tell her that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Selby told us he was aware that – although he doesn’t feel “anything devastating is going to happen” – Williams needs support and said: “I would like to communicate with [the family] more and find the best way to work together.

“Wendy lost her mother. She lost her show. She is divorced from her husband. Her son is off to college. All of these four things that add up will affect anyone,” he said.

Plus, “she has lymphedema, thyroid issues…it’s a pretty heavy package for one person. She goes through a lot,” he said.

“I want her to be as happy and healthy as possible. The people supporting her, trying to be a little bit patient and understanding, she’s a human going through so much,” Selby told us.
