A Royal Rumor Could Inspire Straight Men To Get Pounded, And It’s Gorgeous

Quick: what is Prince William’s legacy? Is this the second line of succession to the British throne? Is it his brief tenure as the cover star of countless issues of D-14 and People Sexiest Man Alive Publishing (and his subsequent disappearance from those publications after reaching his thirties and being revealed to be genetically less aligned with his glamorous mother and more with his Danvers carrot-like father?) or is it the inadvertent popularization of a sex act that had been most prominently associated with a tongue-in-cheek superhero franchise?

Last week, HRH’s legacy essentially solidified when the #PrinceOfPegging hashtag started trending on Twitter. The hashtag was based on a tip from DeuxMoi, an Instagram account that posts blind (completely unverified) celebrity posts. One of the blind articles from last week centered on a British royal whose extramarital affair is “an open secret in London and among English aristocrats.” The blind element reads as follows:
“On a recent media night, I was told the real reason for the affair was the royal’s love of pegging, which his wife is far too old-fashioned to engage in. The wife doesn’t care and actually prefers her husband to get his sexual needs met elsewhere, as long as things don’t get emotional, which was the case with the last wife.
For the uninitiated, “pegging”, a term coined by Dan Savage, is the act of putting on a strap-on and having penetrative sex with another person; it most often refers to a heterosexual male being anally penetrated by a female partner, but this is not necessarily the case. The act has always been stigmatized, but has increasingly gained acceptance within the cis-straight community, thanks to growing cultural visibility via shows like vast city and movies like Dead Pool. “More straight men are unlearning their shame-based biases around receptive anal, and more straight women are becoming empowered through the portrayals of grounding they witness in popular media,” says Ashley Manta, sex and intimacy coach. She predicts that pegging “will continue to become more and more common until it’s no more taboo than a handjob or a blowjob.”
Many royal watchers interpreted the tip as a reference to Prince William, whose marriage to Kate Middleton has been the subject of intense speculation in recent years. This is largely due to rumors circulating about an extramarital affair between William and Rose Hanbury, who goes by the nickname the Marchioness of Cholmondeley (pronounced Chumley, for some reason). In 2019 there was a (now deleted) story in the UK tabloid the sun suggesting Kate Middleton and Rose, who had been good friends for some time, had had a falling out, with some suggesting William’s alleged affair with Rose was part of the reason. (True, the palace did not directly comment on the story, instead dispatching unnamed sources to refute it. “It’s a lie that’s been around the world even before the truth didn’t have time to take off his boots”, a Told the daily mail.)
Following the publication of this story, Rose has since been seen going to church with William and Kate, and she was also pictured at Prince Philip’s memorial service a few months ago, ostensibly planting such rumors in bed. Still, rumors of wrongdoing on William’s part have long lingered in the media, with TwoMe’s blind article only fueling speculation.
Does William know about this rumor? Most likely not. Is he self-aware enough to know that, if true, that would be by far the most interesting thing about him? No. And would he be happy to have been unwittingly elected spokesperson for a taboo sex act that is increasingly embraced by straight men?? Probably not.
But that seems to be exactly what happened, if the Google Trends data surrounding the term “pegging” is any indication: since last Thursday, searches for “pegging” had increased by 400%. Additionally, Pornhub Insights, that cultural trend barometer, published a blog post stating that searches for ‘pegging’ increased by 318% in the UK alone, with ‘strap-on’ also increasing by 98. %. The top three searches for the term included “femdom pegging,” “pegging threesome,” and “pegging his ass.” Hi Britannia.
