Sweetwater Opens Online Used Gear Exchange, The Sweetwater Gear Exchange
Online music gear retailer Sweetwater has created its own used gear marketplace, The Sweetwater Gear Exchange (opens in a new tab).
The all-new virtual marketplace promises to provide musicians with a safe, secure and regulated platform to sell their used electric guitars, acoustic guitars, guitar amps and other musical gear in a “profitable way”.
Those who establish a Gear Exchange store will be able to create and customize their own storefront, and will be allowed to set a store address, set individual return policies, and write a store owner’s biography so that potential customers can learn more About them.
Through these stores, musicians will be able to create listings that include photographs of their used gear that they no longer need or want.
In an effort to provide a secure online used equipment shopping experience, Sweetwater will implement “strict fraud prevention measures”, which include a team of dedicated administrators who will monitor the market for any risk of potential safety.
Sweetwater will also require exact photos of the item listed and provide storefront badges to show how long Gear Exchange sellers have been verified as Sweetwater customers.
Elsewhere, Sweetwater is looking to combine security with financial convenience – and perhaps attract followers from other online platforms – by allowing sellers to purchase shipping labels directly through Gear Exchange and allowing them so as to get the most out of its prices.
And, as a bonus, Sweetwater will celebrate the grand opening of the Gear Exchange by waiving all seller fees until October 31, when Sweetwater Gift Cards will be selected as a payment method.
Sweetwater Marketing Director David Stewart commented: “Being passionate music makers ourselves, we know how real the connection can be between the musician and their gear. It goes beyond being a simple instrument and becomes an extension of the artist.
“Whether it’s someone’s first guitar or an old recording interface, every piece of gear has a story,” he continued. “The Gear Exchange offers music creators and music enthusiasts the ability to find a common place to buy and sell items, sharing the remarkable stories behind each unique piece.
“We’re thrilled to provide a new forum for artists to find the perfect gear to make the music they love.”
With the opening of the Gear Exchange, Sweetwater moves into territory already occupied by Guitar Center – which has its own used gear sales platform – and Reverb, today’s largest used gear site. today.
It’s also a decision that makes sense for Sweetwater, and one that many might have thought would have come sooner, due to the seller’s status in the online gear world.
The Gear Exchange has already been live for a few days, so at the time of writing, the virtual shelves are already well stocked with 2,338 items from sellers who were able to post their listings earlier.
Right now there are listings for guitars, basses, keyboards, drums, studio and recording gear, band and orchestral gear and more, some of which have been highlighted in a section dedicated to staff selections.
