Jamie Foxx Says Spawn Reboot Is Special And Original, Compares It To Joker
A movie based on Todd McFarlane’s Image Comics character Spawn has been in the works for a while now and while there hasn’t been much major news, McFarlane has offered some updates here and there. , including recently at ComicBook.com that a big announcement is coming, but now Jamie Foxx, who is set to star in the movie, is offering his own pretty big updates, telling us the movie is “special and original” while still comparing it to another original take on a comic book character – Joker.
“I’ll tell you this. I’m talking to Todd and the thing is, we want to make something so special because I remember seeing the first Spawn movies and then seeing the HBO versions and so we have something that’s almost like to an original, without giving too much away,” Foxx said. “But it starts off in a way that’s so cool. And it’s not a big budget, you know? And that’s what I love about it. It’s kind of like when they did the Joker. The Joker, yes, is there, but the story of this man who was on fire, it’s the same with what we do with it. And so, we’re just like, just doing it right, cooking it right, but staying in touch, keeping the energy and when we give it to you, there’s going to be times when you’re like, “oh man.” You’ve watched everyone fire their shot and now we’re getting ready to fire ours.”
McFarlane himself spoke to us a bit about the project’s progress earlier this year, acknowledging that while there haven’t been a ton of satisfying responses to the film, there’s a lot going on to make it a reality. .
“I get it, because we’re living in weird times, in the pandemic, and nobody wants to say anything, because you don’t know what’s going to happen and whatever,” McFarlane explained. “But as a collective team, we’re doing what needs to be done to keep this going. We’re putting a bit of pressure on ourselves to say, ‘Can we have by the middle of the year something really big? and tangible to make public? Which isn’t just to go back to the people we added, but also to say, “And we sold it to a studio.” Something really tangible. It’s like we’re not just farting.”
“I know when people don’t get concrete names and information and stuff, and when I have to say, ‘Things are happening. Just wait” that’s not a very satisfying answer, which is basically what I’m saying. And that’s what’s frustrating because I know there’s a lot more going on than that. And you know, on the Hollywood front, with all of this, there’s a lot, a lot of stuff that hasn’t been announced yet,” he added. “But yeah, I’m falling into the same bucket, but at least we’re all rowing in the same direction right now. So, I think there’s a bit of a distraction, but now I think we’re all pretty focused here, and everyone wants the same goal, which is, ‘Let’s take it to the next level. Come on, guys, let’s go.'”
